Before refining his visual art, Crane’s creative voice was forged in the raw fire of the early 80's Los Angeles independent rock music scene. His performing roots began playing in an art-rock garage band in high school called Wasted Space in the mid 70’s, and punk bands like Tragicomedy in the 80's, to playing his horn with the legendary Minutemen (known as the “4th Minuteman”) on 2 records and appearing in their iconic MTV video 'King of the Hill.' He also played as a bassist in the Prog Rock bands Another Umbrella and Cosmic Joke with D. Boon (Minutemen guitarist) and Richard Derrick (drums). His music writing foundation was formed through group improvisational jams. This form of creativity was the basis of his musical genre-transformations. His project “Awakening Sounds” in the 90’s was an innovation to slowly wake up from sleep to healing sounds. Traveling from Hollywood nightclubs to Nepal monasteries to Amsterdam Coffeeshops and then to the peaceful Northwest forests, 'Crane’s Time Machine' captures in images some of his sonic adventures that greatly influenced his creative approach to creating styles of fashion.
